The original. Lime, marble dust and light.

Polished Venetian plaster is built in whisper-thin layers of slaked lime and finely milled marble dust, each one troweled and compressed by hand. As the layers cure they fuse into a single mineral surface with the cool depth of natural stone.

The final burnish is where the craft lives. Worked at the right moment, the surface takes on a soft, liquid sheen that shifts as the light moves through the room across the day.

Every commission is mixed to a bespoke colour, developed against your interior scheme and the natural light of the space. No two walls are ever identical.

The studio also works marble effect walls within the same discipline. Calacatta, onyx and statuario veining is drawn freehand while the plaster is still open, then buried under further layers so the movement sits inside the surface rather than on top of it. The wall reads as one continuous slab at full height, with none of the repeating joints, slab breaks or grout lines of stone cladding.

We reference real quarry samples so the veining behaves the way stone actually behaves, directional, uneven and quietly imperfect, at a fraction of the weight of stone.

Every project begins with a design consultation where we explore colour, texture and light.

Understanding the difference

Polished plaster or marble effect?

The look

Polished Venetian plaster. A calm, even surface with soft clouding and depth. The interest comes from light, not pattern.

Marble effect walls. Distinct veining and movement across the wall, imitating a quarried slab of marble or onyx.

How it is made

Polished Venetian plaster. Thin layers of lime and marble dust, troweled and burnished until the surface holds light like stone.

Marble effect walls. The same plaster base, with veins drawn freehand into the wet material and sealed beneath further layers.

Skill and time

Polished Venetian plaster. Two to three days for a typical wall, depending on sheen level.

Marble effect walls. The most demanding discipline in the studio. Longer on site, and priced accordingly.

Best used for

Polished Venetian plaster. Whole rooms, hallways and ceilings where the surface is a backdrop.

Marble effect walls. A single feature wall, bathroom or reception where the surface is the focal point.
